NFL Roundup: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos clinched a close win over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the game-winning decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Display Seals Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after giving up a two-point play in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards during the contest.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a opportunity to drive for a possible winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten passing yards, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn commented after the contest.
