Wimbledon Adopts Video Challenge System in 2025.

The Championships court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.

Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Competitors are granted the ability to question particular calls made by the official, echoing the system currently in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This development comes just a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review other situations, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Possible interference end of a point.

Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.

A Recent Example

A recent example took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the video challenge against his opponent.

The British player conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire watched a video and determined the player was guilty of interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open this year.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Further Updates

A further change at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
